12 SHOCKING Ways WORLD WAR I Still Shapes Our World Today
Переглядів 3 тис.3 місяці тому
The war that remade the world order … isn’t the one you think. World War I established our notion of global governance, passports, altered the money we use (and even gave us facism). And yet, before researching this video, this student of American public schooling could remember just two things about The Great War: ... espionage and Franz Ferdinand. (And that's largely thanks to the early 2000s...

Doctors went to politicians complaining that they weren't making more money. And the politicians granted their wish by creating elaborate grifts that cost everyone a ton of money. Oh, and during WW2 FDR implemented wage freezes so employers offered health insurance as a benefit to attract employees, which is how we ended up with the HMO system. So, grifters and employers responding to economically illiterate policies created by said grifters.

The Founders were all highly educated men, it is not a writer issue, it is a reader issue. This should not be “controversial” nor up for debate.

Already commented but I would like to remind everyone that the American bombing and continuing sanctions against North Korea are legally considered a genocide by articles a, b, c and d of the genocide convention. "Would you rather live in a city in Nazi Germany or a concentration camp?" Isnt proof that Judaism doesn't work.

This is an example of the straw man fallacy. In this video they create a mistaken interpretation of MMT, that even MMTiers reject. Then they attack that caricature and end up believing they're correct.

Ironic! A human rights activist, US of Israel, but it has the largest Prison population of the entire world! What do the children learn from their school system and families? Their stalkers should stop ranking on Muslims when their own average people are choosing lives of crime. Excellent information. Thanks

Socialism is an often misused term. Socialism isn’t merely paying taxes to pitch in for the common good, which is in the Constitution. It’s when government completely takes over the means of production. The same people putting down so called socialism complain their Veteran’s benefits, Social Security, Medicare, disability are not enough, and yet they vote for Republicans. Whether money is spent for so called handouts or other things governments must spend on it makes no difference as far as the economy is concerned, but the minute it’s an expense to help people and it smacks of charity, the far right is up in arms. Nobody drives up the deficit more than Republicans. Their lack of regulations doesn’t help foment free market competition. On the contrary, it puts wealth in the hands of hands of a tiny few. It’s these same billionaires who are brainwashing you into voting against your own interests

And yet, Madison's(?) draft isn't in the final constitution. It was a draft and I'm sure changed for a reason. Possibly because they didn't want everyone in the country to be considered automatically a militia member.

The gold standard was nothing more than the backing of one worthless item (the US dollar) with another (a hunk of gold metal). It is all a matter of self-restraint regardless if the dollar is backed by gold or not. The gold standard was always subject to change. It was never a law of nature but like money it use as a peg was the creature of man. The true value of the US dollar is that it is the only thing with which one can use to pay taxes. That's it. Plain and simple. Further, whether we like it or not, the US government is the only entity with the authority (given by the people) to print the US dollar and spend it into circulation. A good thought experiment to understand how this works is to imagine you are Alexander Hamilton who determined that in order to unify the original colonial states and provide for this new government which was entering into a war with England, there would need to be one currency. The problem was, how do you get the people of this new republic to except this new currency called the US dollar. You do this by the levy of taxes and requiring that such taxes can only be settled in this new currency. At this point everyone needs to get a hold of this new US dollar to pay the current taxes, which at the time were mostly comprised of property and excise taxes. The first income taxes were enacted briefly during he civil war to divert resources to the war effort and then more fully in 1913 by constitutional amendment. So this is one of the primary means in which Hamilton got the US dollar accepted and at this point the new US government can now print up some of these new US dollars to pay for its soldiers and provide for the infrastructure to support the war effort and to set up the institutions necessary to run the new government and execute its laws. The government's power to tax and require that such tax payments can only be made in US dollars also allows the government the necessary tool to regulate the supply of money it had spent into existence in the first place. If the government spends too much money into the economy where it does not meet up with sufficient production the tax power provides the government with an important tool to reduce the money supply to lessen the impact of any resulting inflation and therefore any devaluing of the US dollar. This was a rocky road as much needed to be learned about regulating such a vast and growing monetary system but this is how you get it going. The other tool available to the US government to reduce the money supply and therefore spending and inflation is the ability to issue government bonds in exchange for US dollars, as was done during WWII (think war bonds). While this may only offer only a temporary reduction in the money supply (as the bonds do come due at some point) levying taxes particularly during the colonial era was not very popular. Thus, at times the issuing government bonds may be the more politically expeditious means of controlling the money supply. Interestingly, this may have been what led to the ultimate economic collapse of the south during the civil war which some commentators say may have led to the ultimate defeat of the south. This is ability to control the money supply through the unpopular exercise of the governments power to tax. The then current Treasury Secretary of he south could not get the government to reduce the south's money supply in order to curtail the runaway inflation experienced at the time so he attempted to instead offer government bonds in exchange for the confederate currency. Unfortunately, it was too little too late and the south went in to devastating economic collapse, lost the war and the rest is history. Like Henry Ford said (and I an paraphrasing): It the people of this nation truly understood the banking and monetary system, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning.

I am a survivor of police brutality from multiple different encounter where I had called the police for help or moral support and they instead ignored me or injured me even though I was a supporter of the police and have not injured a cop myself. One department was so aggressive towards me that they chucked me into the back of a police car head first, throwing me in like a rag doll after dragging me down 32 concrete steps without shoes even though I had asked for my shoes. I repeat, I was NOT under arrest. I had innocently called them for moral support at my home minding my own business and the cops instead did everything but that. They also threatened to break my bathroom door down when I ran in there scared for my life because there were three aggressive officers forcing their way into my home without a warrant. They also refused to put on a mask even though I had ask them to and the male officer gave me the excuse of "well you're not wearing one". I was in my own home. The department accused me of kicking an officer which if I had done that, I'd of gone to jail NOT the hospital. The department also blamed everything on me and did not offer me an apology. I was both injured and traumatized from this and I'm still recovering years later. The ptsd I developed from the multiple abusive cops I unfortunately encountered will likely put me on the streets because I can't keep a job. I have a college degree and am clean and sober and am NOT a criminal. However, some of the police are trying to frame me as one and of course, they get away with it. Making my life even more difficult🫤

Myth #6 effective tax rate does not account for consumer sales tax, property tax, or tariffs added to imported goods or food. The effective tax rate in the US is much higher for the lower income groups even after adding federal transfers.
